Ticking Your Qualifications: What It Means and Why It’s Enough
Deck Plan uses your qualifications and willingness to help to offer you suitable jobs. A qualification is a course plus its sign-offs, as Swimming Canada's CSU/REMS records it; a job is what you do on deck at a meet, such as Starter or Timekeeper. You don't need to wait for a separate approval step after recording a qualification.
Recording a qualification
Open My qualifications. Under Deck qualifications, tick each qualification whose clinic you've completed. Recording any part of a qualification opens the jobs it unlocks, except leadership jobs such as Meet Manager, which an admin assigns; some jobs also require a recorded Level. Dates and sign-offs are optional and do not gate sign-up.
Anyone who lists a qualification — a clinic, a sign-off or a Level — needs a REMS number on file. If yours isn't on file yet, we'll ask for it when you tick a qualification or record a Level; find it in your Swimming Canada / swimming.ca account. Support-role ticks don't need one. If you list nothing and press Continue during sign-up, we'll remind you that you can't sign up for officiating jobs at meets until you list your qualifications.
Sign-offs record successful evaluations. The screen shows how many sign-offs each qualification requires: some, such as Safety Marshal, need none, while others show one or more. Add the sign-offs you have and their dates if you know them, or leave them blank. “Want to learn” records interest only: it doesn't record a completed clinic or sign you up for anything.
In Progress and Completed
Each qualification shows a status, the way CSU does: In Progress once any part is recorded, and Completed once the clinic and every required sign-off are recorded. A small REMS tag means the status is what REMS last said for you, imported by your club. Either status lets you work the jobs the qualification unlocks. A REMS label shows what REMS last said, so it can differ from your ticks until your club's next import.
Meet Manager and Competition Coordinator appear here so they can be recorded, but they stay leadership jobs that are assigned when a meet is set up — they aren't offered for volunteer sign-up. Your Level shows here too; record or change it on your profile. A Level 3+, 4 or 5 needs confirming by your club before it counts for the Referee and Assistant Referee jobs.
Club training and Other courses
HSV Operator, Control Room Supervisor and Electronics Operator are listed under Qualifications your club records: your club records this training, so it isn't ticked here. If you entered one yourself before, it shows as waiting for your club to check, and it still counts until your club confirms or removes it.
Under Other courses you can tick the Open Water and Para courses you've completed. They are kept on your record but don't unlock any job.
Support roles and club jobs
Under Support roles you'll work, tick the roles you're willing to help with. These ticks make you available for those jobs; they don't book you into a meet. Club-created jobs need no qualification and no tick. Evaluator and Concierge Desk have no tick either: each needs only a Level 4 or 5, and the Level you record yourself is enough.
Changing or correcting a tick
You can untick a self-reported qualification while it and its sign-offs are undated and unprotected. If you added a date yourself, clear it first, including any sign-off dates, then untick. Imported or manually recorded parts are protected on this screen; your club can help you check how a correction should be made. A club's overall REMS-confirmation stamp is separate from each record's source.
If you're new to officiating
Start with support roles you're willing to work, or club jobs. Add qualifications as you complete their clinics. Your entries don't update Swimming Canada's REMS record. Your club can separately record that it has checked your information against REMS.
